Compilation and Collection of Agricultural Statistics

Data are collected by physical visit of every single land plot and compiled at townships, Districts, States/Divisions and information are generated at SLRD head office. The first step in the data generation process involves the collection of raw data by surveyors at township Land Records offices. SLRD has cadastrally surveyed nearly 78567 kwins, 4.8 million holdings and 50 million fields, spread over 320 townships in various states and divisions. Agricultural Statistics covers information on crop production, Land utilization and the overall structure of Agriculture.

The Union of Myanmar has an area of 0.26 million sq. miles (6766 million hector) and net sown area of crops amount to only (98.74 million hector) and much of the fallow and culturable waste land are gradually brought under cultivation. During the period 2001/02 to 2005/06, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation has laid down plans for reclamation of fallow land and waste land up to (0.2 million hector) and (.65 million hector) respectively. Total gross sown area is also targeted to reach about (43.99 million) acres.
