Agricultural Land Administration

The State is the sole owner of land. Only cultivation rights are recognized in the agricultural land and are not transferable without the permission of the authorities. Private citizen, Cooperatives or State enterprises are equally eligible for obtaining cultivation rights on fallow land and culturable waste land. The right to cultivate and the right to use fallow and culturable waste land are sanctioned by the Central committee for the management of culturable land, fallow land and waste land.

For agricultural and livestock breeding purpose, the right to cultivate and the right to use fallow and waste land are mentioned below.

(a)  Agriculture

        (i)   Plantation crops	      ---50000 Acres	-  5000 acres at a time and  whenever  cultivation  is 
         completed  on the   said 5000  acres, an additional  5000   acres at a time up to a total   of  50000  
         acres for  cultivation of the  prescribed   perennial plants;
        (ii)  Orchard		      ---  3000 Acres,
        (iii) Seasonal crops	      ---  1000 Acres,

(b)  Livestock, Poultry Farming and Aquaculture

        (i)   Aquaculture	      ---  2000Acres
        (ii)  Livestock & Poultry Farming

               (aa) buffalo,cattle,horse      ---  5000 Acres
               (bb) sheep,goat	         ---  1000 Acres
               (cc) poultry,pig	         ---    500 Acres
The amount of land granted so far for agricultural purpose totals (458955 acres) and for livestock breeding (10576 acres) in various States/ Divisions. Plan tation crops such as cashew nut, rubber and palm oil are favourably grown in Mon, Kayin, Shan, Kachin, States and Tanintharyi, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyarwady, Mandalay, Magwe, Sagaing Division and the area granted for such crops stands about (1011892 acres). Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation is providing assistance to those persons who are granted the land to receive loans for investment capital, to acqurie technology and quality seeds and other necessary assistance depending upon the type of enterprise.
