Machinery and Equipment

Information on use of machinery and equipment was collected in the 1993 Agricultural Census for Mandalay Division.

Only a small percentage of holdings used water pumps (engine or electric) and generators/motors (other fixed power producing equipment).3.13% of all holdings or 3.13% of household-based holdings used water pumps (engine or electric) and 0.24% of all holdings or 0.23% of household-based holdings used generator/motors (other fixed power producing equipment). Relatively much larger percentage of special holdings used generator/motors used water pumps (other fixed power producing equipment). Relatively mach larger percent of special holdings used water pumps (engine or electric) and generators/motors (other fixed power producing equipment), the percentages being 49.21% for water pumps (engine or electric) and 38.10% for generora/motors (other fixed power producing equipment). (Table 6,7 and 8)

11.27% of all land holdings used huller machines. Very small percetages of land holdings used tractors for cultivation, power tiller and other farm machinery, the percentages being 0.42%, 0.12% and 1.01% respectively. The same is true for household-based land holdings. On the other hand,53.23% of special land holdings used tractors for cultivation, 32.26% used power tillers and 32.26% used other farm machinery. Even a slightly greater percentage (17.74%) of special land holdings used huller machines. This indicates that special land houldings with much larger holding size used machinery and equipment as was needed and household-based holdings lacked the knowledge and means to use the labour saving machinery and equipment.(Table 10, 11)
