Use of fertilizers, pesticides and HYV seeds by holders in Mandalay Division was also collected in the 1993 Agricultural Census.
26.42% of all land holdings in Mandalay Division used HYV seeds and 25.11% used pesticides. Numbers of land holding using organic fertilizers was more than twice the numbers of land holdings which used inorganic fertilizers (86.82% against 42.64%).The same is true for household-based land holding. There is not much difference in the use of organic fertilizers between household-based land holdings and special land holdings. However, larger percentage of special holding used HYV seeds (67.74% as against 26.41%) , inorganic fertilizers (83.87% as against 42.64% ) and pesticides (66.13% as against 25.10% ) .This again indicates that special holdings were able to use modern farming parctices much more than household-based holdings.
