OBJECTIVE

The development objective of the assistance is to improve the performance of the agricultural sector and to ensure food security for all, through the development of the system of food and agricultural statistics so that planning and decision making can be based on reliable, relevant and timely data. The immediate objectives are to:

• Ensure a sound methodological base for the Census of Agriculture 2003 to ensure the usefulness and quality of the census results;
• Strengthen the national capacity for the collection, processing and analysis of census and survey data;
• Assess the need for further external assistance for the Census and prepare a project proposal to provide such assistance;
• Prepare a detailed plan for the on-going system of agricultural statistics including a rural development survey related to agriculture
