Geographic Characteristics

Rakhine State lies in the western part of Myanmar between Rakine Yoma on the east and the Bay of Bengal on the west. The region resembles Tanintharyi in North-South alignment of the physical features, in parallel ranges, in broken cost lines, and in limited area for cultivation. The sea has worn away the coast leaving numerous islands and a narrow coastal strip with a plain which is widest in the north and narrowest in the south.

Relife dominates the pattern of rainfall. The south westerly winds produce heavy rainfall. The Rakhine coastal strip receives 80" of rain; the heaviest rainfall exceeds 200".

Rakhine state is hilly, hot and wet,and is covered with thick forest. Rice is the chief agricultural produce.
