PREFACE
Under the guidance, support and encouragement of the Minister for Agriculture,
H. E. Lt. Nyunt Tin,with financial and techical assistance from the UNDP/FAO,the Settlement
and Land Records Department (SLRD) has now published the "Report on Myanmar Census of
Agriculture, 1993" as the product of Phase I of the ongoing Project MYA/85/004 (Agricultural
Census and Strengthening of the System of Agricultural Statistics)."The Report" emphasizes
on comprehensiveness and reliability of the statistics and data. The "Report" not only
contains a concise description of sample design, main features of land holdings, and major
findings and recomunendations, it also contains all the is relevant and the remaining
tables are presented as appendix.
The "Report" could not been completed successful unless invaluable services and
advice from a number of experts and consultants had not been received. Among other,
Mr.I.A. Colwell and Dr. M.M. Manuel, FAO representatives, have provided with technical
services while a group of scholars and experts from the Institute of Economics, Yangon,
particularly U Myat Thein, Pro-Rector, Dr. Thet Lwin, Profess of Statistics, and Dr. Tin Soe,
Professor of Economics, have contributed much in terms of advice, contributions made by tese
experts and consultants are deeply appreciated and grateful.However, we are solely responsible
for any error or omission that may persist in the "Report".
